DAFF releases draft khapra beetle pest risk analysis for consultation
DAFF has released the draft report for Part 1 of its pest risk analysis for khapra beetle (Trogoderma granarium) for public consultation. Part 1 covers the plant product pathway. Submissions close on 27 February 2026.
The draft proposes keeping all seven existing emergency measures and adding a new measure for plant products imported for research purposes. It also proposes adding eight countries to the target-risk khapra beetle country list: Angola, Chad, Guinea, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Tanzania and Turkmenistan.
Part 2 will cover the sea container pathway and will be released separately. Containers are a key pathway for khapra beetle, and effective container treatment is central to the work UBL is doing with Fume8.
