Khapra beetle larvae found in imported nappy pants
DAFF is responding to a khapra beetle detection in imported nappy pants. Larvae were found in Little One’s Ultra Dry Nappy Pants Walker Size 5 and reported on 7 September 2025. DAFF directed that remaining stock be removed and secured.
Khapra beetle is not present in Australia. It is a serious pest of stored grain and dry foodstuffs and would pose a major threat to Australia’s grains and other plant industries if it spread. The ABC reported that the Government estimates the cost to the grains industry at more than $15 billion if the beetle became established.
The beetle is a known hitchhiker in sea containers and can turn up in goods with no link to grain. Cases like this show why effective container treatment matters at the border.
