DAFF removes BMSB safeguarding and rolled goods pathways for 2026-27
DAFF has removed two alternative clearance pathways for goods subject to BMSB seasonal measures. From the 2026-27 season, the BMSB Safeguarding Arrangements Scheme and the BMSB rolled goods policy are no longer available.
DAFF said its review of inspection and detection data found these arrangements did not give the same level of protection as treatment-based measures. Importers who used the safeguarding scheme now need to meet the standard seasonal requirements, including mandatory treatment where it applies. Target high risk goods in sealed six hard-sided containers can be treated before export or on arrival in Australia at container level. Break bulk goods that do not meet post-treatment requirements must be retreated offshore.
DAFF has encouraged importers to plan early to avoid delays. With fewer exemptions, demand for timely and effective container treatment is likely to grow. UBL’s Fume8 technology is designed for fast, on-site ethyl formate treatment of sea containers.
